AREZZO and CORTONA

CORTONA and AREZZO

After a delicious buffet breakfast, we were all very excited to arrive in the town of Cortona - made popular by Frances May’s book and movie "Under the Tuscan Sun".  Cortona has lovely cobblestone streets and the scenery is even more spectacular than portrayed in the movie.
It was quite a climb up the steep hill to reach the small town but so worth it.
The ladies were informed that we have a rule which needs to be enforced - everyone must have at least one gelato per day!
We then went to the medieval town of Arezzo with such perfect timing -  we went on one of two days of the year when they have a jousting competition between four regions. There were marching bands and people dressed in costume and on horseback parading through the narrow cobbled streets, with possibly half of Italy there to cheer them on ......lovely atmosphere

Dinner back in Colle di val d’Elsa was down the street from our hotel in the cellar of a quaint restaurant. The marathon meal took us over three hours with course after course, one better than the next, with plenty of vino and lots of laughter.
Everyone is ready to sleep after a fun day in the heat under the Tuscan sun!
