CHIANTI Area
We sang Happy Birthday to Veronica as we drove to the amazing Castello
di Verrazzano winery, located in Greve in Chianti, for a visit of the cellars with wine
and olive oil tasting. The Chianti Classico and Chianti Reserve were wonderful.
The view is spectacular as they are situated high on a hill overlooking the
Tuscan hills, with rows and rows of vines and olive trees. Our vitner was charming and entertaining and most philosophical about wine and life.
We then stopped at Mac Dario's butcher shop in Panzano for a
light lunch – the menu is based on the Chianti hamburger and other typical
products of the area. He is a famous personality with his own cooking show on
Italian TV.
In the afternoon we indulged yet again in a wine and olive
oil tasting at Castello di Volpaia – located in Radda in Chianti ….. we are fortunate to have a bus driver so
none of us have to drive, all this cellar inspecting is a thirsty job! We have visited incredible estates and tasted
some amazing wines. Each estate is different and each wine has its own
special flavour.
Dinner was enjoyed in the gourmet hotel restaurant - with yet more vino and laughter.
